Carers in the Warrnambool community can receive some support in return at a special function at the WRAD Centre on Thursday. WRAD has invited families, workers, neighbours, volunteers and all other members of the south west community to attend a “soup luncheon” in recognition of ‘Caring for the Carers’.
WRAD Director Geoff Soma said there was tremendous support from people as individuals and in groups who care for people who have problems with alcohol and other drugs. “This lunch is to celebrate the effort and commitment of caring for a loved one with a substance use issue and to promote the need for improved service supports for carers,” Mr Soma said. “We hope to create further awareness of carers needs.” The soup luncheon will be provided from 11am till 2pm. Mr Soma said there would be an informal round table discussion about 1pm for people to get together and “share what we do and what we need to help support each other”. The activity is part of Drug Action Week.
WRAD is also holding free community health checks in the WRAD car park on Wednesday, June 23.
