People will also have the chance to test their blood alcohol content during the promotion from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday, June 23 in the WRAD car park at 172 Merri Street Warrnambool.
There will also be free giveaways as part of the community health afternoon. WRAD Director Geoff Soma said Drug Action Week was important to promote awareness of the harm caused by drug and alcohol abuse and its impact on the general health of the community.
“WRAD sees drug and alcohol misuse as part of the general health and wellbeing of our community, which is why we also offer an accredited bulk-billing general practice” Mr Soma said.
“We want to highlight the variety of services offered by WRAD and draw attention to the impact drug and alcohol abuse has in our community.“At the same time we want to break down any stigma attached to drug and alcohol problems and present these matters as part of a broader understanding of community health.”
The check-ups will be carried out by WRAD medical staff with support from the South West Primary Care Partnership.
The Warrnambool event is one of more than 650 to be held Australia-wide during Drug Action Week.Drug Action Week is an initiative of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia and is held annually to raise awareness about related health issues and to highlight achievements of those working in the sector.
